Over the past couple of weeks, the Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate has been attempting to raise his profile in the constituency. This has manifested in a glut of literature going through doors across Dagenham & Rainham, specifically referencing the Labour candidate Margaret Mullane. Jon Cruddas MP has strongly rebutted what he regards as misinformation.

Jon Cruddas, Member of Parliament for Dagenham & Rainham said:

There is a lot of misinformation being pushed through doors across Dagenham presently by so-called ‘local’ Conservative Sam Holland, a locally elected Councillor in Bicester, Oxfordshire. The literature makes reference to Margaret Mullane and the Controlled Parking Zone policies of Barking and Dagenham Council.

“In the first instance I find it odd to be focusing on council issues ahead of a General Election, but I suspect this is to distract from the devastating mess the Conservatives have made of our country leaving very little room to hide from their record in power.

“In the second instance, perhaps the news didn’t reach Oxfordshire, but the CPZ policy isn’t the cut and dry issue it is being portrayed as. Constituents in Dagenham will know that I have consistently raised my concerns about how this policy has been implemented, some areas wanted it, some didn’t, and in Village Ward Margaret and her fellow Councillors have never failed to make the case for residents.

“Margaret was selected to stand for Labour at the next General Election because she was born and raised in Dagenham and has worked her whole life in the constituency. She has been by my side representing residents for 15 years and understands the area, the issues, and the community. Everyone in Dagenham & Rainham knows Margaret is someone who gets things done.

“I do wonder what the good people of Bicester, 97 miles away, make of all this.”
