Jon Cruddas MP is pressing his campaign for the promised Beam Park station to come about. He met with Havering Council on 23 November to discuss approaches to persuade the Government’s Department for Transport to lift its blockage so that the station can proceed.

Jon said: “I am very pleased that Havering Council is fully behind the case for the Beam Park station. We agreed our next steps to bring this about.

“I find it very strange that the Department for Transport appear to be placing responsibility for moving this much needed station forward on to the train operator, c2c. I have heard of talk to delay consideration by another six months, this is totally unacceptable. Without confirmation that the station can go ahead, much needed plans for regeneration with many local jobs will be lost.

“I will be lobbying the London Deputy Mayors to make sure that the GLA funding to build the station continues to be safeguarded and also plan to raise this matter with Michael Gove, Secretary of State for Levelling Up Housing and Communities.”

Margaret Mullane, Labour’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham, commented: “So many people bought homes in the area on the clear understanding that there would be a new station on the Beam Park development with a 20 minute travel time to Fenchurch Street. I am fully backing local residents and Jon Cruddas in the campaign for the promise to be delivered.

“Without the station passenger congestion at Rainham and Dagenham Dock stations will become intolerable. The government must get out of the way and ensure that the station can go ahead”.
